“This idea of a Women in Leadership Day came directly from the students,” Amanda Melsby, Dean of Teaching and Learning, said. “We began cultivating a list of women leaders in Buffalo and the surrounding areas from a variety of industries and sectors; once I began contacting leaders, I was met with enthusiastic support and excitement."
Students had the opportunity to hear from keynote speaker, Kristen Gibbons Feden, an attorney and MSNBC Legal Analyst and champion for women and civil rights. Feden is most notably known as one of the prosecutors on the Bill Cosby case, contributing to his conviction in 2018.
The day included morning and afternoon panels of local women business leaders. After each panel students gathered with one another and their teachers to discuss their new findings and how these messages can be applied to their life and future.
“Through the panelists and activities, I hope that students are inspired by the panelists' leadership journeys,” Melsby said, “that they gain a more developed definition of leadership and that they deepen their understanding of how they are and can be leaders in their community.”
